Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

Sometimes, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade equipment due to their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They increase the stats of whatever item upgrade (this post) they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kits to recover upgrade components from other items.

The amount of damage an armored item or weapon will absorb is contingent on the degree of upgrades. The upgrade of an armor piece to maximum upgrade level will boost the damage it absorbs. But, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are that are available in the game and they all have different effects. For instance, certain upgrades will give the armor a certain number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as illustrated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades also require fees for use. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either constantly updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to upgrade your armor. It can be found by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant improvements in stats and are well worth the investment.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it can also reduce its agility and its speed. This is why it is typically not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces above +9, since the defensive boost gained is usually not worth the additional weight and power cost of the upgrades required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of an weapon. For example an upgrade can increase the damage dealt by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Certain firearms have upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed for greater damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades for weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade the more expensive the upgrade. The cost of upgrading will be lower if have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could continue doing this until you reached a max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, following which upgrades would reset.

It's possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a chance at gaining you the best tier of perks and blessings.

The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they use most frequently to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. Shepard, for example should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase the effectiveness of a skill or provide additional effects on weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of creating them. You combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the level of the jewel has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a gem can be improved upon by the Jeweler in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

All tiers of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a sufficient level to be able to get them. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without destroying the original. However you can only swap out one jewel in a piece of equipment once.

The use of more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth and is usually used for aesthetic reasons. In addition to improving performance, the diamonds create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your weapons and shields. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be exchanged, however they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to give your character a variety of small, but valuable benefits. They can be acquired starting in the beginning areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, or by completing road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers and later found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to escape. The player can then collect necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar fashion as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active even when the character is not fighting. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the lack of a strong team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by the hero's Best item upgrader stats.

A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader mod to be upgraded. This is especially true when you are looking to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players on the other hand will pick a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, like finishing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss.
