Carpet detection automatically boosts power when it detects carpets and the double side brush helps to remove debris from corners.

The mopping performance, though still impressive, is not as good. The mop rotates at a high speed and pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily scraping away dirt and staining. The X1 Omni is the most expensive robot vacuum that mops in our test, but it comes with some distinct features that make it worth considering. The X1 Omni is most well-known for its enormous dock that doubles as an charging base for the robot, a cleaning sink and two water tanks that are 4 liters in size. It also houses two bins: a 2.5-liter dust bin and a 2.5 dust bin that is 2.5 liters.

The base has a couple of buttons for control that let you manually start cleaning tasks, recall the robot or use the dock's auto-emptying procedure. Press two of the buttons to toggle the child lock which is a great feature for parents who are worried about kids tinkering with the vacuum.

The Omni Omni like other robotic vacuums uses its camera to spot obstacles and furniture that are in its path. It will avoid them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system will map your home 10 times faster than standard laser detection systems and is four times more accurate in recognising objects.

The X1 can be prone to become stuck when it gets caught in a hazard like a power cable draped over a rug. It won't function until you untangle it manually. This is a rare event, but frustrating nonetheless, since the X1 does not have a "stuck status" alert on its app.

The X1 Omni cannot automatically switch from mopping to vacuuming mode during the cleaning process. You'll need to manually switch between the two, which isn't a big deal aside from the fact that the mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between uses, which can lead to mildew or mold.

On the positive side the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who came up with its modern, sleek base and mopping pad. It's a major departure from the utilitarian, all-black bases used by competitors like Roborock and iRobot and is a refreshing sight in a space which is dominated by clunky boxes and clunky models.
