However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self cleaning vacuum cleaner-emptying dustbin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and lowers the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. After connecting, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series.
