One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum cleaner bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot vacuum that mops on which part of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. For best robot hoover families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
