The WH1000XM5 can be used with Sony Headphones Connect, which includes a range of features that can be utilized to personalize the audio experience. The app allows you to monitor your location and alter ambient sound features according to the environment you are in. They also have a built-in microphone for making hands-free calls. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is able to play music via Bluetooth or via a wired connection using the cable included. They support aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive codecs to provide high-quality audio via Bluetooth.

Like the XM4, the WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable, with well-padded headbands and ear cups. They're comfortable to wear for long periods and are comfortable enough for commutes and longer flights. They're noise-cancelling headphones that can cut down background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH-1000XM5 have decent bass for closed back headphones and they offer an excellent soundstage with an excellent distinction between vocals and instruments.

They have a low latency for watching videos, which is a plus. The lag is so minimal that it's barely noticeable and they can be used to play casual games. They're not the best option for video games that compete and are ideal for those who are using them for media consumption and for making hands-free phone calls.

Sony is adamant about including smart features into its products and the WH1000XM5 is not an exception. The active noise cancellation is among the best I've heard and they come with a suite of smart functions to improve the overall listening experience. They also include Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to close to high quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology, which streams music with higher quality over Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the launch of the first-generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have been regularly featured on top new wireless bluetooth headphones - other - headset lists and putting them in the same class as the likes of Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort. The PX7 S2 is the latest model that takes the original headphones up a notch with a boost in ANC performance and a refreshed appearance.

The bio-cellulose drivers of 40mm in the earcups are angled so they are aimed directly at your eardrums. This gives you an audio experience that is more intimate than most other closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 does not disappoint in this claim with a fervent zeal. Vocals are clear and clear, and bass is deep and rumbly when it's needed to be.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well with voice calls, with a clear and crisp audio that doesn't overpower your own voice. They also provide a fast charge that gets you back fully charged in only two hours, and they're compatible with hi-res audio, thanks to an aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec that allows them to play 24-bit music.

The noise-canceling technology as well as improved audio performance are among the most important upgrades for the majority of listeners. In our tests we were able remove nearly all simulated aircraft noises with the PX7 S2. They also performed exceptionally well in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus, new wireless bluetooth headphones which demonstrate an excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo vocal, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

The PX7 S2s aren't just noise-cancelling, they also come with a range of other features that make them highly comparable to other top-rated headphones. They're fully wireless, with Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, which means you can pair them with two devices at the same time, and they come with a built-in microphone that allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. They're also incredibly durable, with a premium-feeling and durable construction that will last for a long time of regular use.

Of course they're not 100% perfect. The clamp force of our test models were slightly higher than we'd like, and there weren't as many apps features as the other options. However, these aren't big complaints. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that rivals other headsets in its class. It's difficult to imagine any other competitor that can beat them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who prize high fidelity and are looking for a top-quality wireless noise cancelling headset The Focal Bathys are tough to beat. The Focal Bathys were the first ANC headphones made by a French audio company that utilizes Bluetooth. They offer amazing sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device for true hi-fi listening with a maximum of 24 bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are stunning, with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures that similar to Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also feature premium materials such as aluminum and magnesium for an extremely sturdy build that feels solid, comfortable and worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide an impressive, clear sound signature. They easily outperform consumer ANC devices with similar prices like the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. They can be enhanced further by using direct DAC audio mode, making them an excellent choice for serious hi-fi enthusiasts.

The Focal &Naim app allows users to alter the headphone's playback controls as well as Bluetooth pairing preferences. They can choose between silent or soft intensities for ANC, adjust the brightness of the LEDs that are on the ear cups, and tweak settings for EQ. The app is bare but has enough features to make it worthwhile.

The only significant flaw is that the active noise cancellation does not match the quality of the competitors. The headphone doesn't cut out all the background noise like the most rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its treble accuracy is subpar, with a muffled mid to high-end that can be distracting from the instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys headphones aren't very portable. Their ear cups don't fold up and weigh a bit more than the competition, meaning that they're not ideal for traveling. They're best suited to a home environment where they can be used for extended listening sessions or as a reference headphone for sound engineering purposes. Despite their size and bulk, the Bathys are surprisingly comfortable to wear for prolonged durations of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N are an excellent pair of wireless over ear headphones for the price. They feature a great noise-cancelling technology that is capable of blocking out ambient noise, making them perfect for commuters and travellers. They also have a nice design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their durable construction and attractive matte finish.

They are similar to Sony's 1000X and XB910N earphone models. They sport a slim headband, with the standard earcup hinges and a solid plastic build. They're light and comfortable, but they feel a bit too compressed for me. They come with a USB-C charging port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable included in the box. They support multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means that you can connect them to two devices at once should you choose to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid tech for noise cancellation did an excellent job of reducing ambient noise. There were only a few noticeable small blips while walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers didn't zap all sounds around them however they struggled with low-frequency sounds such as the engine rumbling sound of buses and trains.

The streaming of music via the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and found they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments with ease. It did an impressive job of controlling the bass in rock tracks while keeping the mix in focus.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to alter the CH720N's multipoint connection and ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also choose from a range of audio presets. You can also make use of the app to enable DSEE which boosts the quality of compressed content and improves its sound quality.

While the WH-CH720N lacks some of Sony's primetime features compared to the XM5 (such as Speak-to -Chat and Quick Attention) they do offer an impressive set of features for PS130. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and the DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support I believe it would have been a welcomed inclusion.
