Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets in order to provide an additional stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Item Upgrader Kit ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of an item will be dropped during the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to double or even eliminate the chances of failure, and some upgrades that offer a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs buff the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the Best item upgrader way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes more quickly.

These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have a level 1 base and a totally different set of bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can waste many resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Requirements

The upgrade of items allows players to upgrade the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.

However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

If an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in crit chance, the increase is applied before any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items may have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For example they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons.
