It also comes with an extremely powerful battery that can clean for two hours, and return to its dock automatically when the bin is full.

It also comes with the feature of smart mapping that uses multiple sensors to help determine the areas in your home that need attention and make a tidy route around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does an excellent job of moving around toys left scattered on the floor or furniture legs that stick out from under the furniture. It also has a camera that will snap the Roomba back to reality when it starts to drift from its intended location.

iRobot also added an additional set of rollers beneath the Roomba that don't have bristles which makes them more likely to withstand knots than earlier models. They're also a bit taller than older rollers and can better fit under beds and couches that are low, and they're designed to help this model navigate more easily on varying flooring types.

The Roomba 980 is distinguished from other models of high-end quality by its brand new dirt detection feature that makes use of a camera in order to identify dirt that has been embedded. This is a nice improvement over the previous model, which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage technique to bounce around a room and clean it at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and Roborock s7 robot Vacuum also on mid-pile. It did a good job of removing pet hair, roborock s7 robot vacuum but it had a difficult time with extremely thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed, despite these minor limitations. It's also not as expensive as top-of-the-line models. It has many of the features you would expect from a flagship model, but doesn't come with all the fancy apps and smart home integration you'd see in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is available for use immediately. After taking off the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from the undercarriage, it is simply connected to a wall socket or its Home Base docking stations, press the "Clean button" and let it work. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's full of debris, and it has indicators at the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it requires recharging or if its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
