Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

It is unable to account for cultural and individual differences. Furthermore, the DCT is susceptible to bias and can lead to overgeneralizations. It is essential to analyze it carefully before it is used in research or evaluation.

Despite its limitations, the DCT is a useful tool for analyzing the relationship between prosody, information structure and non-native speakers. Its ability in two or more stages to manipulate social variables that affect politeness can be a strength. This ability can be used to study the impact of prosody across cultural contexts.

In the field of linguistics, the DCT is now one of the most significant instruments for analyzing learners' behavior in communication. It can be used to examine various aspects such as politeness, turn-taking, and lexical selection. It can be used to assess the phonological complexity of learners in their speech.

Recent research utilized an DCT as a tool to assess the ability to resist of EFL students. Participants were 46 CLKs at the upper-intermediate level who responded to DCTs, MQs, and RIs. They were also asked to think about their evaluations and refusal performance in RIs. The interviewees were asked to explain their choice of pragmatic behavior in a particular scenario.

The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were examined using descriptive statistics and z tests. The CLKs were found use euphemistic words like "sorry" or "thank you". This was probably due to their lack of familiarity with the target languages, leading to an insufficient knowledge of korean's pragmatic norms. The results revealed that CLKs' preferences to diverge from L1 and 2 norms or to be more convergent towards L1 norms varied based on the DCT circumstances. In Situations 3 and 12, CLKs preferred diverging from both L1pragmatic norms and L2 norms, while in Situation 14 CLKs preferred a convergence to L1 norms.

The RIs revealed that CLKs were aware of their practical resistance to each DCT situation. The RIs were conducted one-to-one within two days of the participants had completed the MQs. The RIs, which were recorded and transcribed by two independent coders and then coded. The coders worked in an iterative manner, with the coders re-reading and discussing each transcript. The results of the coding process are compared with the original RI transcripts to determine how well they reflected the actual behavior.

Interviews with Refusal

A key question of pragmatic research is why some learners are hesitant to adhere to native-speaker pragmatic norms. Recent research attempted to answer this question by using several experimental tools, including DCTs MQs and RIs. Participants comprised 46 CLKs and 44 CNSs from five Korean Universities. They were asked to perform the DCTs in their first language and complete the MQs either in their L1 or L2. They were then invited to an RI where they were asked to reflect on and discuss their responses to each DCT scenario.

The results showed that, on average, the CLKs rejected native-speaker pragmatic norms in over 40% of their responses. They did so even though they could produce native-like patterns. They were also aware of their pragmatism. They attributed their decisions to learner-internal factors such as their identities, personalities and identities that are multilingual, 프라그마틱 환수율 as well as ongoing life histories. For instance, they discussed how their relationships with professors facilitated more relaxed performance in relation to the intercultural and linguistic standards of their university.

However, it is prudent for future researchers to reconsider their relevance in specific scenarios and in various contexts. This will help them better understand the impact of different cultures on the classroom behavior and interactions of students in L2. Furthermore, this will help educators create more effective methods to teach and test korea pragmatics.
