Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of whatever item they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The amount of damage an armored item or weapon can absorb depends on the degree of upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will boost the damage it absorbs. However, it's important to keep in mind that this will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than it was before.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different effect. For instance, certain upgrades give the armor a certain amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade items an item can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as shown in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require a fee to use, and are shown by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Jewels

All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for these. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped by a different jewel of the same kind without damaging it. However you can only swap out a jewel in an item of equipment only once.

Utilizing more jewels in a move can make it feel more comfortable and is typically used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to enhancing performance, the diamonds create a surface that is harder than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These are a small perk and can be swapped out at any time but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, item upgrades just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with many small, but beneficial advantages. You can find them in the start-up area as loot or as personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors and by completing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and evasion. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar fashion to how the player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade item slot that accepts either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any device. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.

These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This allows the hero to be more effective while inactive, and can also help fill in the void of a strong team or any slots in the talent tree that would normally be filled with the hero's ideal stats.

In general, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace in the near future. Next, any items that have desirable statistics aren't as important as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand will pick either a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.
