1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a great robot cleaning machine vacuum that has a variety of clever features that make it easier to maintain than many competing models. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most efficient features we've seen in an iRobot and it's compatible with both hard floors and carpets. The app guides you through the entire process. It's also easy to use and set up. Its ability to resume the same place it left off during our tests is another impressive feature. It did this for 77 minute on one cleaning, and then the battery was exhausted.

Contrary to other robovacs that we tested, the i3+ EVO has an automatic emptying bin that dumps debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base when it's filled. The i3+ EVO can be prevented from overfilling thanks to a self-emptying container. However it still needs to be emptied manually at the end of each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's internal dustbin holds 2.4L of debris that is enough to last several cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.

Similar to the i7, this model is equipped with state-of-the-art floor sensors to create maps and navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only store one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not for the i3+ EVO.

Although the i3+ EVO is superior in picking up surface debris than some of the other robovacs that we tested, it's not the best for cleaning edges and corners. It's also more abrasive on furniture, despite being remarkably quiet. It moved chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and also got stuck on cords and toys during testing.

2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro is an excellent choice, whether you are expanding your robot vacuum collection or are just beginning to get started. It packs powerful power, a smart navigation system and a user-friendly automation into a slick design at an affordable price. It's the most affordable model for the money available right now, and it even matches other Roborock models which are more expensive in a variety of ways.

This robot does a great job cleaning bare floors and its avoidance system helps it stay clear of furniture legs and other obstacles. It also does well on carpets and gets a high score in our tests of navigation. The only snag is that it's a little noisier than many other models we test and it doesn't do as well in our owner satisfaction or predicted reliability tests.

The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin of 770ml. This means you won't need to empty it as frequently as other 2-in-1 robots. Its 240-minute runtime is quite generous in comparison to other robots we've examined. When the battery is low it returns to its dock and recharges before resuming cleaning where it left off. You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and make voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

This is one of the first robots we've seen to incorporate 3D mapping. This along with other advancements made it perform extremely well in our tests of vacuuming and automatic floor vacuum mopping test. You can schedule cleaning times, set no-go zones, and view the battery's condition, among other things. The app is simple to use, however it does not support Apple HomeKit. The feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple changed its footnote on its website in early November to reflect that this feature has been delayed until 2025. HomeKit isn't compatible with other robots, but Siri Shortcuts are.

It also did a great job avoiding obstacles like furniture. It's also able to return to the base station which is a nice feature in the event it's running out of battery during cleaning.

It also has a spot cleaning mode that allows you to clean or mop a specific area of your floor. It can also be programmed to follow a particular direction. This is great if you have narrow stairs or hallways. It did a good job of cleaning carpets in our carpet cleaning review, but it struggled with longer pile carpets and rug.
