Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item upgrader mod in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Usually items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases like eth titans do not vary significantly in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute benefit, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or obtained from chests and missions. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will have to select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be and item upgrading also the required component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three kinds of universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, are able to be used in any kind of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it can be eligible to be given affixes that enhance its capabilities. The amount of affixes available is determined by the item's kind. For example an uncommon or rare weapon with a base that is normal will only have two affixes available for it, while a legendary armor will have up to eight affixes available for it.

Each upgrade step will require the use of a certain amount of Flightstones and crests, depending on the current level of the item and the item slot it's in. Weapons typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not attain its maximum level, the NPC will give players the option to transfer it to another character and re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will have less chance of success.

Engineers may use a level in order to compare the height of the building to an established point, such as an existing benchmark. This process is known as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the backsight rod and the level before turning the level and making the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that structures are built to an extremely high level of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a very important aspect of the game and can boost the damage, strength or other attributes. It is possible to do this through the item menu, or by pressing the Reroll button every time you upgrade an item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be performed in rare cases.
