BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This stops thieves from replacing the ECU or installing an additional lock to circumvent the security system.

The Ghost is different from other immobilisers in that it does not use key fobs or LED indicators. It relies on the buttons of your vehicle to let you to enter a unique sequence of disarming that you only know.

Stop & Start

If you've previously driven a BMW or used its stop-start feature you may have noticed the engine continues to run for about 30 seconds after you have released the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to check the vehicle for a signal emanating from the ignition key. If it detects this the vehicle will continue to operate. The Autowatch 2 Ghost is a device that stops this by stopping the vehicle whenever you press a button.

Our BMW ghost immobiliser is an innovative next-generation device that does not require cutting OEM wires or installing an aftermarket alarm and key fobs. It is hooked up to the BMW's CAN data network and programmed with a secure, unique PIN code that is accessible through buttons in your car. This lets you enter the key sequences which aren't accessible in normal media menus. For example, volume up/down or source, cruise control, air conditioning, etc. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it very difficult for thieves to figure out.

In addition to this we can also add a service/ valet mode to the system. This is activated when the car is scheduled for maintenance so that the Ghost is not visible to the garage. This can be done by pressing the service button on your infotainment system 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return the Ghost will re-arm automatically.

Service / Valet Mode

The Ghost is the most effective immobiliser available. It prevents your vehicle from being taken by hacking or key cloning. Once the service/valet mode is activated and enabled, your BMW is unable to drive after it has been started. This will stop anyone else from testing driving it while you are away. After you return, it will return to normal, preventing your vehicle from being tampered with or stolen once again.

The Ghost can be installed on any BMW. All you need is the correct keys, as the device does not utilize the original remotes, but can be used in conjunction with them. If you do not want to use a smartphone or aren't comfortable using it, we can supply an optional Bluetooth tag that can be used to turn off the Ghost. This is an additional cost and requires an additional Bluetooth pairing.

Anti-Hijack

Ghost developed this discreet, unobtrusive device to combat the increasing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It's designed to stop thieves from adding a new key or replacing the ECU in order to start your vehicle and then drive it away. Ghost connects to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to generate an unique push-sequence which must be entered before the engine can be started.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated, any attempt to restart the engine will be stopped. The system will sharpen the horn, flash the indicators and stop the vehicle if the code is not found. By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can disable the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to start temporarily without entering PIN.

If you own a GPS device connected to your BMW it could be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, so you can still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked unsupervised. You can also use your smart-phone to control the anti-theft feature as well as other functions.

Remote Control

We can connect your Ghost device to your mobile app to allow remote control of keyless start and go functionality. This is useful when you are else and a mechanic or valet needs to start your vehicle. The system allows you to turn the vehicle on by selecting drive and then exit service mode without needing your key fobs. You can also see your vehicle in real-time on a map on your smartphone, which is ideal for tracking your car when moving around.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the center console. It is completely concealed and tamperproof and does not require additional wiring. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a personalised pin code is inserted into it. The pin code needs to be entered prior to the engine starting. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system using the cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen, the Ghost will go into service mode and shut down all functions unless you have the PIN code or the mobile application to disable it. This feature was designed to protect your vehicle from high-tech thieves who are now utilising relay boxes to steal your car. This will prevent thieves from using mobile phones to turn on your sat-nav or mp3 players to locate your vehicle!

Ghost can also stop 'Relay Style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most popular method of stealing a vehicle using a keyfob that's duplicated or stolen through hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing an anti-theft device within your vehicle, called Secure-A-Key. The device is installed inside the key-fob in your vehicle and removes the battery after a short period of inactivity, this is possible on all modern PKE key-fobs.
