1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want an entirely automated cleaning, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it fills up.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they are very good at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested. It can get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it might encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest features. It is self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 automatic floor cleaner plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. When connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit perfectly next to a coffee table or on a bookshelf where you can move it around like an enchanted wand.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large crumbs and fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It quickly switches from handheld vacuum to best floor vacuum robot vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons models, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The V10's main drawback is its short running time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical not an extraordinary run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. It's capable of sucking up a variety of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach the corners and the edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top picks, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs and has more advanced automation capabilities and can better move its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, as it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter the suction power mode by hand and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as offering a wider range of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

It was not as successful in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.

Contrary to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. They have an extra-wide cleaning path, and a dustbin that is 2 times larger than other models. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers that clean along edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which senses the presence of dirt or debris on the surface and then automatically adjusts its power level. It also includes a smart application that lets you see the virtual map and control the functions and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the vacuum's battery status and then return it to its dock for charging by pressing a button. The app allows you to alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.

The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can make it difficult for other robots I've tried.
