The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum reviews we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
