Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrading is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, item level Upgrade Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner.
