WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item level upgrade, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will show a preview of the item at its next upgrade items level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, item level upgrade with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrader mod is upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less even when they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade item requires up to 20 crests, based on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
