What is an Upgrade item upgrading in Genshin Impact?

Upgrade items are a special kind of item upgrader mod that can make certain Pokemon evolve. They can be obtained by spinning Pokestop discs, or as rewards for events that are related to evolution.

They can be incorporated into weapons, armors, trinkets and gathering tools in order to add additional effects or stats. Certain upgrades also provide the appearance of a certain cosmetic when used.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an additional bonus or item upgrader kit effect when the equipment is utilized. They can be purchased from vendors, looted or obtained as rewards, or crafted or dropped. Upgrade components must be of a higher quality than the Item upgrader Kit that they are being added to, and many require that the item have an upgrade slot to accept them. Upgrade components can be substituted with other upgrade components, with the exception for glyphs and inscriptions which can only be removed or added freely.

The most commonly used upgrade components are gems, infusions, and enrichments. Gems are upgrade components that can be placed into any type of equipment, and provide smaller bonuses than other upgrade components. Infusions and enrichments are only able to be used on non-amulet gear and some legendary equipment. They can be retrieved from the equipment they're within by using an Upgrade Extraction Device or by salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Other upgrade items such as glyphs or inscriptions can be removed or added to the gathering tools. They can provide a range of bonus effects that can be used to increase the speed of gathering or adding additional materials. Inscriptions can also modify the name of an item upgrade, for instance changing a sword to be called "Fiery Sword" when you add the Sword Pommel of Fortitude inscription or adding the Rune of Minor Vigor suffix to make it 'Canthan Armor of Major Vigor'.

Glyphs

Glyphs represent a concept or idea by using character symbols. For instance, a glyph could be an icon or an image of a heart or flag. These symbols can be used to create a complete visual language. A glyph can also be accompanied by a standard code that is used across fonts to refer to it. This code is called a Unicode.

A glyph's shape dictates to what Primary Stats and Secondary Stats can be added. Some glyphs will have both Primary and Secondary Stat bonuses, while others only have one or the other. The glyphs with both Secondary and Primary stats will be added to the stats of the whole unit, while glyphs with only one Primary Stat bonus multiply the stat values.

It is easy to use glyphs. Click and hold the text insertion point to display the Glyphs panel. Select the glyph you want to insert. You can also view a list of all available glyphs by choosing View All Glyphs. The glyphs are displayed in order of their Unicode code, and you can select the one you'd like to insert by clicking it.

When you create the glyph set for the first time, it is saved along with other InDesign preferences in a file that can be shared. The glyph sets aren't tied to any particular document, and you can edit them using Edit Glyph Set from the Glyphs panel menu.
