Its 8,000pa motor is able to pick up dirt as well as pet hair and droppings with ease. Carpet detection automatically increases power when it detects rugs and the dual side brushes help to clean debris from corners.

The mopping performance, while still impressive, isn't as good. The mop rotates at a high speed and it pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily cleaning up dirt and stains. I've also noticed that the front arms stick out a bit more than other robots that vacuum and mop, which is useful to get into tight corners and along baseboards. The only drawback is that the S1 Pro must use a specific cleaning solution to perform mopping and is separate from the vacuum. It is easy to install, and it works well. However when you purchase this robot vacuum for mopping it is important to be aware of this.

The X1 Omni is the most expensive robot vacuum that mops in our test, but it comes with some distinctive features that make it worth a look. The X1 Omni's main draw is its enormous dock, which doubles as a charging base and the housing for two water tanks, a sink for cleaning, and the 2.5-liter dust bin that is automatically emptys.

The base has a few control buttons, which allow you to manually start cleaning tasks, recall the robot or use the dock's auto-emptying procedure. Hold down two of the buttons to switch on the child lock, which is a nice feature for parents who are worried about children playing with the vacuum.

The Omni Omni like other robotic vacuums uses its camera to identify furniture and obstacles in its path. It will stay clear of them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system maps your home 10 times faster than standard laser detection systems and is four times more precise at recognizing objects.

This can cause the X1 to get stuck if it gets entangled in a hazard, such as the power cable that is draped over a rug. It won't function until you untangle it manually. While this was rare but it was a very frustrating experience when it did happen particularly since the X1 Omni doesn't come with an "stuck" status alert in its application.

Another issue that could be a problem is the X1 Omni's inability to automatically switch between vacuuming and mopping modes during cleaning. You'll need to manually swap between the two, which isn't a big deal except for the fact that the mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between use and can cause mildew or mold.

The X1 Omni looks great, thanks to the Jacob Jensen design team (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who designed the sleek modern, contemporary base and mopping pad. It's a major contrast to the utilitarian, all-black bases that are used by rivals like Roborock and iRobot and a pleasing sight in a space which is dominated by clunky boxy models.
