The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and best robot hoover you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuums that mop vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
