WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The Item Level Upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, Item Level Upgrade tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which displays an item's preview at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current level of the item upgrader, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

Crests

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance it's Best item upgrade to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
