As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuums that mop vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot vacuum uk of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
