Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of equippable weapons and armor. This improves the stats and may also include buffs or rerolls to an affix.

It is important to remember that although you can upgrade magic and common equipment, it is generally not worth the effort. Rare and Unique gear will quickly outclass the standard gear and upgraded magic.

Cost

If a player wants to upgrade an item, they have to spend Gold to do so. The cost of upgrading an item is based on the current level of the item and the type of upgrade. Upgrades to weapons are typically less expensive than upgrades to armor, since weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold required increases as an item is upgraded.

The upgraded items will also have improved stats that can improve its performance in different ways. This includes increasing its attack power and critical strike chance or damage per second. The upgraded item can also provide additional buffs to the weapon it is equipped with. These upgrades are able to boost the overall strength of a group or a single unit, and could be a major influence on the gameplay.

Items can be upgraded at any NPC that is an upgrader in the game. These NPCs can be found in major questing areas or capital cities. You can also find upgrades for items by visiting dungeons that have high-level bosses, and speaking to NPCs at the garrisons of your faction.

The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to increase the level of weapons, armor and trinkets. This process is largely identical to the process of reforging gear in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor, item upgrades but instead of using the currency appropriate to the task, players must visit an NPC for upgrading items to complete the process.

The rerolled item also has different requirements for strength and dexterity. It is important to note that the item rerolled does not keep its original strength or even a fraction of its resources.

Rerolling some upgraded items is only possible if the item was upgraded was an Epic Rare, Rare or Unique. Depending on the kind of item, you will require one or more Power Dices (Dice 6 is droppable from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 12 is droppable from Bosses). You will also need various amounts of Minerals and Erons.

Time

Items upgrades can be used to increase the performance of your equipment and ship without the need to level them. During the process of upgrading the item will gradually grow closer to the next level, however, it isn't always able to reach the full upgrade bar. The process will consume Growthstones and Sollant however there is a ten percent chance to get an item that is fully upgraded in only one cycle of growth. The more levels that an item attains, the higher its stats will be and the more items can be upgraded.

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to earn an attribute bonus or a special effect, while the equipment is being worn. Certain upgrade components come with cosmetic effects. Players can obtain upgrade components through crafting, purchasing from vendors or the Trading Post, looting, or obtaining rewards. Players can also recover upgraded items using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging with a high tier salvage kit. Glyphs that are placed on tools for gathering are able to be swapped.

A player can turn an item to upgrade it into another item by selecting it and pressing the green button an arrow for reroll. This alters the layout of the item's window and allow players to choose up to six items to "recycle". The item that is recycled will be exchanged for a level 1 item upgrading similar to it. Recycled items won't keep their status, nor will the resources used to upgrade it.

The highest level of upgrade an item can achieve is determined by its quality and tier. Rare and Epic items are able to be upgraded to levels of nine, whereas common items can only be upgraded up to level six. The item upgrades are added to the base statistics of the item. This means that they won't increase more after a certain point.
