Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item upgrader kit in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with strong bases, like eth Titans have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, item upgrading weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute bonus, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, retrieved in loot from enemies, or received from chests or missions. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain level before they are upgraded.

In order to upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the player must choose it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected upgrade stats will be, as well as the required component or material needed to make that happen.

There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be put on any type of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade item components that have a type restriction. Infusions are gems that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant changes from earlier versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before being "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a handful of important items to maximize their impact, instead of spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

If an item fails to reach its max level, the NPC will give the player the option of transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and costs the same amount of material but will have a lower chance of success.

In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes which made them easier to roll for than other. It meant that you'd get the most crucial stats for your build more frequently than others. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns, and the control impaired duration stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for all stats. This can be a great or a bad thing, dependent on your needs and wants from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can come with a bonus that boosts the item's power by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added over the usual affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the better your chances of receiving an exclusive bonus.

The game also includes a number of sets, which give a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are placed on an item. This is a good method of giving a character a lot more power without spending a lot of money.

Many players prefer to reroll their equipment and weapons, particularly in the beginning stages of the game. Rerolling can help you get a more powerful character faster, which allows you to advance in the game and attain higher tiers.

Sets
