Lolita's Personality

Lolita's care

Lolita's captors, known as the Dolphin Company, have ignored the advice of a vet and continued to put her at risk. They are a danger to her health by forcing her to perform for tourists. They overexert her with high-speed circle and head-first dives, exposing her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. Additionally, they put her in a tiny tank that is just one-and-a-half times the size of her natural habitat.

Fortunately, in 2022, the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with an organization of Lolita advocates called Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe who consider her an ancestor and plan to eventually transport her to open waters. The plan included a sanctuary pen in Washington's westcoast, where she could live the remainder of her life, receive human care, and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen was to be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home and was surrounded by ocean, but not concrete tanks.

If the plan was implemented, Lolita (also known as Tokitae or Toki) could still be alive today. In the wild, killers whales are social animals and are close to their families until they die. Lolita who has been alone at Seaquarium in isolation for 40 years, is now being released into the wild. People from all over the country have demanded Lolita's retirement from Seaquarium and her eventual release into the wild. Lolita's Diet
