WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade item gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item upgrader mod from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be purchased from item upgrading upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrades in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, item Level upgrade however it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an Item Level Upgrade (Pattern-Wiki.Win) is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or item level Upgrade Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
