The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can mop and vacuum well. The mops spin at fast speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, allowing for quick removal of dirt, pet hair, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, as well as a selection of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For example, you can decide to let the robot vacuums best do a deep clean in the kitchen and living rooms but be careful with the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models can't. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity that allows it to pick up finer hairs and other debris other robotic cleaners may miss.

Like the two other Roborock models I've tested, this one has reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology that helps it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates two cameras that can recognize objects, determining if they're walls or other surfaces. It is able to change its direction in a way that is best automatic vacuum and mop and clean around them without stumbling.

It's the most expensive model I've tried, but it also has the most features. Its sleek, angular design is eye-catching and it has just three physical buttons: the power button, which also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock and a home button to return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal the 350ml dust bin as well as a 200ml water tank. The water tank automatically emptys and the bin auto-refills.

The only drawback I could find with this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't removable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if it's required), it's a pain to take off the mount itself for manual washing. I've found any plush carpet that the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener on mount, which can cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart capabilities which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app allows you to manage and set up these features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app also allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the life of batteries and maintenance on components. However, you'll need to jump through a few hoops in order to enable voice control on this model which is a pity considering the quality of its performance.

3. Dreame X40
