A good combination bot will have impressive navigation and obstacle avoidance. Find models that automatically empty their bins and refill their water tank, and machine-wash their mopping pads with the dock that is specifically designed for them.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual gets you running in no time with an entire dust bag, water tank and a hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that is able to clean up a storm and is a great vacuum cleaner too. The mops spin at a high speed and utilize 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to swiftly remove dirt, pet hair and sticky dried spills. The vacuum has four power modes, a selection of brushes and attachments, and a user-friendly application that lets you choose the kind of cleaning you'd like to have for each room.

For instance, you could decide to let the robot do a deep clean in the living and kitchen areas but take it easy in the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and smart navigation technology are superb as the robot is able to detect tiny obstacles that other models struggle with. Its only issue is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at full speed. However, a quick look at the cleaning history on the app will tell you precisely what the best robot cleaner has done, where it is moving, and what obstacles it has stumbled upon or avoided.

The docking station has a handy LCD screen that indicates when maintenance is needed, such as emptying debris and rinsing the water tank that is dirty. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank, by using a 600ml bottle filled with eufy's own solution.

Both the S1 Pro vacuum and mop come with plenty of running time as well, with the mop being able to operate for an 184-minute runtime in Quiet mode, and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in normal mode, before needing to recharge or return to the base to replenish. The app is easy to use and intuitive and lets you look at all the details of the cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's flagship robot vacuum and mop. The model this year has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. This enhances the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an enhanced suction power which allows it to pull up smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic hoovers cleaners may miss.

This Roborock model, like the other two I tried is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as walls, furniture and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by having a dual camera that can detect objects and determine whether they are an object that is a wall or a different surface. It can then automatically change its direction and clean them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, however, it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek and angular design is striking and only has three physical buttons: the power button, which can also restart cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock and a home button to bring the best robot hoover back to its dock. The hinged lid opens to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml of water tank. The water tank is self-emptying, and the bin is auto-filling.

The only downside I've discovered with this model was that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. You can replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount to wash it manually. I've noticed that any plush carpet that the robot vacuums with mop passes will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, which could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a variety of clever features, including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can manage and set up these via the Roborock app that is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor the life of batteries and maintenance on components. But you'll need to jump through a few hurdles to enable voice control on this model which is unfortunate considering the performance of this model.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop equipped with exceptional suction power, advanced mowing capabilities, and robots that vacuum and Mop a variety of innovative features. Its smart design allows you to customize and efficiently clean while saving time.

The X40 robot vacuums with mop vacuum cleaner is the first one to provide 12,000 Pascals cleaning power. It is among the most powerful choices available. Additionally the X40 is very quiet during it's operation, producing only occasional squeaks of sound when switching between modes or completing self-maintenance tasks.

It can be programmed to mop only the hard floors, and skip carpeted areas, and vice versa. It can be controlled via the Dreame app or by using Alexa, Siri, and Google Home to ensure a smooth voice-controlled operation.

The app is easy to use and intuitive and the X40 comes with a variety of smart features that are simple to configure. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, alter suction power and mode, look at mapping and floor plans and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also keep track of its progress and notify you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with many features that make it a great option for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the dustbin and wash mop pads before refilling them with fresh cleaning solution and water. It also can detect when the mop pad is overflowing and alert you before it gets overflowing, reducing the requirement for robots that vacuum and mop manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. It has a number of features that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub, which is a new feature in its mop heads, makes use of two mop heads with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is higher than Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also remove pet hair, dirt particles and remove spills and dirt-stained spots.

Its mops are also dried and cleaned inside the base station after each use. This is an excellent feature as it stops the growth of mould and unpleasant odours in storage, and it also makes the mop system more efficient. It's a system that we haven't yet seen on other robot vacuum and mop models, and it could be a great method of keeping your home clean for longer.

There are a lot of options, including the option to schedule cleanings and change preferences. These can be set via the app or buttons on the unit itself. The app is simple to use and provides a variety of options for customising the cleaning process, and there are a lot of features that other robots do not include, for instance, the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power whenever it detects dust particles instead of using a manual setting.

The L20 Ultra has a stylish design with a metallic-white-white finish that looks sophisticated and classy. It is a little heavier at 4kg than the other robots on this listing but it's not excessively heavy. It is solid and well-built. The mopping design is also excellent and the double-rotating mop works well on hard floors as well as in corners. The MopExtend feature allows them to reach even 2mm below the baseboards.
