The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination autonomous vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum reviews vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
