The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, best robot hoover removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuum reviews vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
