How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

Take the door off

Installing an interior set of bifold doors might seem like an involved and challenging project but it's actually straightforward for a DIYer with a bit of experience. The most common problem that internal bifolding doors encounter is that they slide out of alignment. This could be due loose screws, holes on the anchor/pivots or an unaligned bifold door. The majority times it can be fixed by a few simple adjustments. However, if your door isn't moving in any way, you might have to replace it.

It is possible to use some force to remove the guide, but you must be careful not to break or chip the foot. After removing the guide that was previously attached, take out any threads or epoxy left in the area it was attached. This will help avoid future problems with the guide.

After removing the guide, test out the new guide by placing it in its permanent location and then applying a few rotations of masking tape or a type of guide tubing to hold it in place. This will allow you to double-check the alignment of your guide and spacing to ensure everything is properly set up. The final step is to replace the door. If the guide is in the right position and functions as it should, then you're able to proceed. Make sure to replace and tighten any screws or pins that you removed or loosened.

Bifold doors can be a beautiful feature for a home, but they often require tweaking or adjusted to ensure they remain in good shape. Some issues can be addressed by keeping the doors in place.
