bedside crib co sleeper cots (also known as co-sleepers and bassinets) are designed to allow parents to rest with their baby at night without risk of SIDS. However they are not suitable for use up to 6 months, when your baby is required to be moved into a cot, or a moses basket.

Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They are less than. They also often convert into toddler beds, whereas they are typically used for up to three years. older. If you want your child (or children) to be capable of sleeping in a larger cot, large bedside cot it's a good option to select the larger one.

Height

When you are choosing a cot for your bed be sure to choose one that can be raised to a height that's comfortable for feeding your baby. It should also be able to be dropped to the ground to allow you to lift your baby closer to you during night feedings or to soothe. This is especially useful in the event of recovering from C-section. For instance the Next2me and Tutti Bambini cots can be adjusted to an elevation of 58cm. the Snuzpod 3 goes up to 63cm and the Knuma Huddle up to 70cm.

You should also consider how low you would like the bottom of your crib to be. While some mums find it easier to lift their babies out of traditional Moses baskets at the smallest height, others prefer having a higher base that gives them more stability. One of our testers for mums said that the Joie Roomie Glide was a popular choice. It comes with an easy-to-fold side that you can press at the press of a button.

Be aware that a bedside or bassinet device should only be used when your baby is able to hold his head without assistance, which is typically around 6 months. This is due to the danger of inhaling suffocation. It is also important to remember that if you opt for a bedside or bassinet which can be converted into a crib and vice versa, you must start removing the sides when your child is ready for this, so that they don't get out of bed or get out of bed.

Design

There are a variety of bedside cribs, from basic to extravagant. Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which was awarded Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. It also comes with an easy-to-clean liner, reflux incline and rocking feature. It's a bit larger than the other cribs that we've looked at, but it folds flat into its travel bag so it's relatively compact when not in use.

MFM mom home test Leya loved the practicality of this crib for bed, describing how it was designed with the needs of parents and children in mind. It is a fantastic design that is incredibly simple to operate and is super-sturdy. Its swivelling base is brilliant as it means you can move the bassinet from side to side and one of its sides can be lowered down to facilitate access - particularly for new mums who are recovering from C-sections,' she added.

Safety

A large bedside cot mattress cot's main security characteristic is that it can be easily raised or lowered so parents can reach their child to feed, comfort or change his or her nappy. This makes it ideal for new mothers recovering from the C-section. Look for a design that allows you to lower one side with the press of a button, so you can easily lift your baby bedside crib without needing to get out of bed. This is essential, especially as your child grows and becomes more mobile. Avoid adding anything that could increase the risk of injury or suffocation, such as pillowcases and duvets which could cause your baby to become overheated.

The NPR released by the CPSC NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to problems with the product, such as gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents) and enclosed openings with fabric sides (11 incidents) as well as consumer misassembly, or missing parts (6 incidents); and miscellaneous other product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR the CPSC looked into the possibility of adding additional requirements to bedside sleepers. For instance the products would need to meet the minimum height requirements for bassinets, or at a minimum, the maximum height requirements for the rail that is lowered. However the CPSC determined that these requirements are not practical or effective in reducing the amount of instances in which infants were entrapped between the bedside sleeper and an adult bed.

A majority of the incidents reported in the NPR included multi-use bedside sleepers which can be converted to other modes such as play yards and bassinets. Several commenters suggested the CPSC add an alternative provision to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers with multiple uses that would permit them to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets using a removable attachment. This attachment can be permanently connected or removed when the product is not being used as a bassinet for babies.

The CPSC is considering these and other comments received in response to its NPR regarding bedside sleepers. The Commission will consider these comments when deciding on the final rule, which is expected to be issued in the month of November 2021.
