The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger bin in the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic hoovers vacuums we have test. They feature motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, robot Hoover a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and robot hoover cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuums that we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
