Its 8,000pa motor is able to remove dirt as well as pet hair and even droppings easily. Carpet detection automatically boosts power when it detects carpets and the double side brushes help to clean debris from corners.

The mopping performance, though still impressive, is not as impressive. The rotating mop spins at a high rate and pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily scraping away dirt and stains. The S1 Pro is only limited by the fact that it has to use a mopping solution that is proprietary and is sold separately. It is easy to set up and performs well. However, if you are buying this robot vacuum for mopping, you will need to pay attention to this.

The base also has a number of control buttons that allow you to manually start a cleaning job and then recall the robot or use the dock's automatic emptying process. Press two of the buttons to switch on a child lock, which is a nice option for parents concerned about children playing with the autonomous vacuum.

Like other robotic vacuums the X1 Omni uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path, and then avoid them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system maps your home 10 times faster than standard laser detection systems and is four times more accurate in finding objects.

Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni will occasionally get caught up in obstacles, like the power cord that is draped across a rug, that it gets stuck and stops working until you free it. This is a rare event however it was frustrating since the X1 does not have an "stuck status" alert in its app.

The X1 Omni cannot automatically switch between mopping and vacuuming mode during a cleaning session. You'll need to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't that bad but the mopping pad doesn't get cleaned or dried between uses. This can lead to mildew and mold.

The X1 Omni looks great, thanks to the Jacob Jensen design team (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who designed the sleek modern base and mopping pad. It's a significant contrast to the basic black bases of rivals like Roborock or iRobot. And it's an impressive sight in an industry dominated by boxy units.
