Remove the Door

It may seem complicated and difficult to install an internal set of bifold doors, but for DIYers with some experience it's actually quite easy. The frame is not the problem however, getting the doors to close and fold smoothly is. As bifold door replacement doors are complex machines, they may need some tuning to keep functioning correctly. It could be as simple as tightening a screw or as complicated as removing the door and replacing a pivot pin or roller.

The majority times you can resolve these issues by making a few simple adjustments, without having to remove the doors. You may notice that your doors are sliding or scratching the floor, or they're bouncing off their tracks. In order to fix these issues, it isn't a big deal, and with three simple steps your bifold doors can be back on track in short time.

One of the most frequent problems that internal bifold doors encounter is sliding out of alignment. This could be due loose screws, holes in the anchor/pivots, or a misaligned bifold door. Most of the time, this can be corrected by a few simple adjustments. If, however, your door isn't moving at all, you may need to replace it.

To take the door off to open it, you'll require an appropriate screwdriver, and possibly pliers (to help loosen any pins that are tight to pivot). The screwdriver is used to release the locking levers at the bottom pivot bracket. The pliers are used to take off the pin.

After the top roller is free and the top roller is loose, you should be able to lift the door and then swivel it downwards in order to lift it off its pivot brackets and track. This is usually quite straightforward however, be sure not to let the door slam against the door frame. Then, you can sand down the edge of the door to smooth it. Then, you can repaint or finish it according to the requirements.

Take off the Roller Guide

This spring-loaded roller guides mounts on top of bifolding doors to facilitate smooth operation. Once the old guide is removed, carefully cut through the remaining finish on the foot of the new guide with a razor blade to remove it from the rod blank. This will make the guide's foot easier to remove and prevent any damage. Be cautious when doing this because the foot is extremely sharp and could potentially cut or snag your fingers.

You may need to apply some force to remove the guide, but be careful not to chip or break the foot. After you've removed the guide that was previously attached, take out any remaining epoxy or threads in the area it was anchored. This will prevent future problems with the guide.

After removing the previous guide, test your replacement by putting it in its new location. Apply a few rotations using masking tape or guide tubing in order to secure it in its place. This will let you double verify the guide's spacing and alignment to make sure that everything is properly set up. This step is crucial to avoid future problems regardless of whether you use the CRB Spine Finder and Deflection System or just eyeball it.

If the guide is placed properly and is functioning as it should the next step will be to reinstall the door in place. Remember to tighten and replace any screws or pins you removed or loosened.

Take the Bottom Pivot off.

Bifold doors can be an attractive addition to any home, but they may require tweaking or adjusted to ensure they are in good working order. Some issues can be resolved with the doors in place. Once your track is repaired or replaced it is time to check the doors for proper operation. Check that they're able to move smoothly between positions. You'll want to ensure that the edges of your door are parallel to the frame when it's closed. If they aren't, then you'll have to adjust the top pivot bracket and tighten or loosen the bottom setscrew until the edge of the door coincides perfectly with the frame.

Replace the Roller

After the guide has been removed then lift the door frame up and out of its track. Then with a wrench, remove the top pivot bolt from the hole in the header of the frame by loosening the nut.
