It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and robot Hoover self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map.
