Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums best vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
