Asbestos Legal Matters

After a long struggle and legal battle, asbestos-related measures led to a partial prohibition on the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of the majority of asbestos-containing products. This ban is still in effect.

The December 2020 final TSCA risk assessment for chrysotile asbestos found unacceptable health risks to humans for all uses that continue to use Chrysotile asbestos. The April 2019 rule bans the return of asbestos products to the marketplace.

Legislation

In the United States, asbestos laws are enforced at both the federal and state level. Although most industrialized nations have banned asbestos, the US still uses it in a number of different products.
