There are models that mop and charge themselves, a feature that may be beneficial for those with pets or kids. Many of the top performers in our tests also have decent obstacle avoidance.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. That makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for a hands-off, fully automated vacuum cleaner cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin as it gets full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or via the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with best amazon vacuum Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot vacuum cleaner comparison on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." In a world of cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like an automobile. The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to suck up large crumbs and fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It can quickly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum and vice versa.

This model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also provides an easy access to two attachments and a Wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. Its claims on the market that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests show. This is a typical, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home but not long enough to get every single spot (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is a basic model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It could pick up most types of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area multiple times to give an extensive clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top choices, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistance. It also feels more sturdy and has a stronger motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are also among the Top Rated Robot Vacuum producers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and top rated robot vacuum many more. The app is easy to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.

In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86% of it. However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks, which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested which could be a deal-breaker for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access via the app, and you can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to check in on pets or kids when you're away from home. The dustbin and filter can be washed for quick, easy cleanup. They also include two side sweepers to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES model also comes with AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's collecting dirt on the surface or embedded dirt. The vacuum also has an app that allows users to see a virtual map, control functions, and set schedules. You can also track the status of the vacuum and then send it to the dock for charging at the touch of a single button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for instance has a dark-colored border that could cause trouble for other robots. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border, without notifying the edge. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
