BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost utilizes the CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding keys or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a correct PIN code to start the engine.

It is connected to your BMW's CAN network and is programmed with a secure, unique PIN code that can be accessed using buttons installed in your car. This lets you enter a specific key push sequence that is not available in the usual menus for media, such as volume up/down or source, cruise control or aircon on that prevents your car from starting unless the sequence is entered. The PIN could be between 4 and 20 numbers which makes it extremely difficult for thieves to determine or break.

This can be accomplished by pressing the service button on your infotainment system 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return, the Ghost will automatically arm again.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

When parked at home or in the event of a meet and greet In a meet and greet situation, the Ghost can be put into service mode, which allows you to start the vehicle using your keys as normal however it stops the engine from being started until the correct code is entered. This is ideal for those who need to turn their cars to valet companies or other trusted friends & family members. It also allows you to get the car into the garage for servicing etc without having to worry about it being taken away or altered by a mechanic while you wait.

Once the service/valet mode is activated and enabled, your BMW will not be able to drive after it is started. This will stop anyone else from attempting to drive the vehicle while you are away. After you return, the vehicle will be restored to normal operation and prevent it from being altered or stolen.

Anti-Hijack

Ghost developed this discreet, unobtrusive device to combat the increasing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It is designed to stop thieves from acquiring a new key or replacing the ECU in order to start your car and then drive away. Ghost connects to your CAN data network and uses the buttons within your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create an individual push sequence that requires to be completed before the engine can start.

If the anti-hijacking mode has been activated and the engine is restarted, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. Once the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, if it is unable to find the correct code it will also stop the engine (where possible). The Anti-Hijack feature is disabled by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your car to temporarily start and drive without having to enter your PIN.

The system allows you to turn your vehicle on by selecting drive and then leave service mode without having keys. You can also see your vehicle's location in real-time on a map using your smartphone, perfect to track your car while on the move.

The Ghost can be positioned under the dashboard or in the center console. It is completely secure and untouchable and does not require additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personal PIN code is inserted into it. The pin code has to be entered before the vehicle is started. This prevents thieves from using a copied key or replacing the ECU to disable this system.

If the vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will enter service mode and stop all functions until you have the PIN code or the mobile application to disarm it. This feature was designed to protect your vehicle from high-tech thieves who are using relay boxes to steal your car. It also prevents thieves from being able to use their mobile phone to turn on your sat nav system or MP3 player to track your car!

Ghost also can stop 'Relay Style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most frequent way that a vehicle is being taken away with a key-fob that has been copied or stolen by hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing an anti-theft device in your vehicle, called Secure-A-Key. The device is installed inside your vehicle's key-fob and disconnects the battery after a few minutes of inactivity. This can be done on the majority of modern PKE key-fobs.
