WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader kit upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrades used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item level upgrade slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less, even if they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and Item Level Upgrade simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance it's Best item upgrader to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
