In our tests, the IQ was capable of handling pet hair effectively, clearing huge amounts of debris from floors that were not bare and fair amounts on medium-pile carpet. It was a little less effective on shag carpet, where it struggled to get at dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It did a good job of navigating the legs of chairs, tight spaces, and the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was a little slower on bare floors but it quickly recovered and performed better than the other robots we tried.

The IQ is a better option over the iRobot Roomba 694 for most uses. It has a bigger dustbin, a longer battery life and is better at navigating obstacles. It also has mopping attachments that can deal with sticky debris. On the other side, the iRobot is more durable, has fewer parts that require replacement or maintenance and incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance and can even create virtual no-go zones through its companion app. It can continue cleaning where it left off, even if its battery runs out before it finishes.
