The robot vacuum isn't afraid to tackle the stairs, unlike other models. Like any mop or vacuum it is susceptible to clogging due to particles, like tennis shoes, thread, jewelry or other loose objects.

You can use the iRobot Home app to label rooms and establish no-go zones. You can also track the progress of your mops and their battery levels.

iRobot Combo j7+

The Combo J7+ is a robot vacuum and mop that combines smart mapping capabilities of iRobot along with the ability to handle spills. It uses the same acoustic sensors onboard and iAdapt 2.0 navigation as other Roomba options and maps your home 7 times faster than previous models. It can also be set to keep Out Zones and Clean Zones to tell the robot which rooms it should stay clear of and when to clean them.

The robotic arm is the most important feature of the j7. It keeps the mop pad hidden when it is not in use and lowers it when carpeting or hard flooring. The idea is to avoid spraying water on the rug, and the Combo J7+ did well at this during my tests. The robot was not able to cross the rug, even though I moved it around several times.

The arm has a 240mL tank that can be easily popped out and filled, so it's more manageable than mop pads found in other 2-in-1 robots. It also utilizes the iRobot's PrevisionVision obstacle avoidance technology, which is more advanced than some systems of this type.

iRobot Combo i5

This multitasker can mop and vacuum in one machine. The vacuuming is done by using a special bin that can accommodate up to 60 days of dust. According to iRobot, this reduces the amount dust released into the air. The i5+ also features dual multi-surface rubber brush heads and Power-Lifting Suction to take care of dust, dirt, pet hair and staining on floors. When it's time to mop, simply switch the Mopping Bin and a compatible cleaning solution.

The i5+ uses iRobot OS which means that it gets smarter as you use it. It creates a Smart Map, which remembers the names of rooms as well as your preferences for cleaning. The iRobot App lets you set a schedule or direct the robot to clean a certain room.

iRobot Combo i3

The iRobot Combo i3 has been updated from the original Roomba i3. It has a HEPA filter to trap allergens and the same great external dust compartment, however it now supports smart mapping. This means that you can designate no-go zones to prevent it from sweeping those areas again. The i3 Plus still has a number of other great features too like its advanced cleaning system with 10x power-lifting suction and a three-stage cleaning process. It also features a textured exterior to protect against fingerprints, dust and pet hair.

It performs well on bare floors and is able to clean the majority of debris however, it was a bit difficult with pet hair on low pile carpets. It is quieter and does a great job on carpets with high pile. The i3 costs a little more than the Roborock S4 Max, but it comes with a self-emptying mechanism that cleans the mop pads, and then refills the reservoir with water.

With the i3 app, you can create schedules for cleaning at a time that suits your needs. You can also control your robot via your voice assistant to start or stop cleaning. It will also monitor your home's unique layout to give you a personalized cleaning routine and schedule. It makes use of advanced mapping sensors to navigate carpet and hardwood floors, and it also teaches you how to clean your home to maximize performance.

iRobot Combo i4
