However unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including clearing out any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is low it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin that removes a major source of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. When connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then lets cleaner air into your home. The main drawback of the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is an average not an extraordinary time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's still enough time to get rid of the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to cover every spot (though an additional run-through often does the trick). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top rated robot Vacuum picks, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before returning to its base.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, Top rated robot vacuum clearing up 86% of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.
