The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we have tested. It can get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it might come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room and vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then lets cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It quickly converts from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments as well as a clip for a wand. This is a major improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its limited run time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests show. This is an average and not a remarkable run time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to sweep a typical-sized home however, it's not enough time to get into every corner. (A second time is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area several times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi best robot floor cleaner is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is better able to move itself. It also has a bigger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that is found on all kinds of home electronics It's no surprise that they're one of the top robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested and this could be a deal breaker for some shoppers.

The smart best auto vacuum comes with an onboard camera that is accessible through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you check in on your children or pets while you are away. The filter and dustbin can be washed for quick, painless cleanup. The HRV 425BL however was able to continue to move across the border without ever registering the edge. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
