World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will increase 3percent of its previous damage each time it is upgraded.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of the item will be available in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of the extent to which it will increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the possibility of failure. Certain upgrades also provide an additional bonus when they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in their radius, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded many ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

In the final game you'll find that the most effective way to upgrade your gear is to place Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced again, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

When you have the desired Glyphs, you will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus which will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic places on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When a player improves the equipment they have it is replaced by a new item upgrader kit. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a drawback in that the item could become more expensive even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a totally different set of bonuses. This can be useful, but should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives buffs when the player repeatedly enters or exits water. This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the max roll by an increment of 10.
