1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is an excellent option for a wide range of homes. It features a superb navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with a lot of features and controls that are accessible through the app. It also comes with a helpful feature that allows you to create Cleaning zones for specific areas that require more attention, as well as Keep Out zones where you do not want it to be. As with all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it even more efficient over time.

It's rarely tripped up or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the most effective in avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it's not as effective in detecting pet waste and other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While the Anker-owned Eufy has earned a name for itself in budget robot vacuums, it's not yet an all-in-one model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of features that are advanced and can compete with more expensive models.

The laser navigation is the most important feature of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have built up a rough map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects but the X8's laser mapping technology is much more accurate. It also takes significantly less time to build up an accurate picture of your space and stores multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are efficient at grabbing corners and edges. Our tests revealed that it could only remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is good for loose spills, you can't control how much water it uses and this will reduce its effectiveness on more serious stains. It does, however, do an excellent job of removing pet hair, with a better speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, powerful appliances. It features a stunning design, a great navigation system and a powerful cleaning power. But it has a few operational oddities that prevent it from being ranked as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

Like the latest models from iRobot and models, the RX2 has a dual-sensor mapping system which uses a LIDAR sensor to map out an area and two 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room is identified and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and favorite sections to the robot. You can also start cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, view live feeds from the onboard cameras, and more from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction powers are outstanding, effectively getting rid of surface litter from carpets of medium pile and also removing embedded dust on bare floors. But it's not the most flexible robot available. It's not the best climber and has issues with transition strips made of steel.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac looks just like a typical robot, but it's an upgrade in terms of performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2-D maps of your house and uses to navigate and stay clear of obstructions. It is able to detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector and an infrared sensor that keeps the vacuum away from stairs makes it one of our most agile vacuums.

In our tests, it was able to moved over large shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for carpet and bare flooring beat the competition, and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of pet hair from our laboratory test samples.

Its controls are a bit more basic than the competition; there's an oblong cleaning button at the top, and you can start it from the app, or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, set up no-go zones, and look up its cleaning history. Ion is covered in a sophisticated dark gray plastic that looks and feels appealing in your home. The rear dust bin is easy to access for emptying and removing the filter is equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a simple low-cost robot vacuum at a reasonable cost, the Eufy11S might be your best bet. It doesn't have many of the more advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in more expensive models, but if you're not looking for these functions, you can save some money with this model.

The robot is easy to setup and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with an remote control that lets you select between various modes and adjust the suction levels. You can also assign the robotvac to a cleaning schedule.

During our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors as well as in carpets with low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to fit under furniture with low hanging and other objects that bulkier robots could not reach. It was able to get easily over thresholds of doors and move between floors of different types to another.

The 11S, like other robots will also suckup some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you keep these objects off the ground and using a cord organiser when you can. Its self-navigation as well as environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. It's a powerful robot vacuum, even if its app isn't the most responsive and the 980's wheels spin out when rolling over cables.

The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate between furniture and around edges, while Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from slipping down stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station to ensure hassle-free charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't as impressive as some other robot vacuums, it's a solid and reliable machine that can keep your floors clean for hours on end.
