World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the item to which it is used (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment with less Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them from the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of an item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of how much it will improve after a future reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly, and there is a significant possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break if it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that it can improve a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs, and there are also a few rare glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

When you have the desired Glyphs, you will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that boosts the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Leveling

The system of upgrading items allows players to increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different number of components and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player upgrades a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced by a new item. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback because it can cause the item upgrade to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with an initial level and a completely different set of bonus bonuses. This is a good option for some items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can use up many resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert to its initial condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonus it earned, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or speed of reload). The player is able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest.
