It will then continue to use the information to stay clear of obstacles. In our tests, it stayed clear of getting caught up in power cords and long curtains, and even dog toys. It isn't perfect though and occasionally encountered obstacles like tangled wires, some odd book or toy.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone application, and this is where you'll find all the sophisticated features that set it apart from other robotic vacuums and mops. This includes room-specific cleaning and mopping settings, a schedule planner mopping and vacuuming power ranges, as well as integrations with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for smart home integration. The S7 Max Ultra's extensive feature set lets it accomplish everything a standard robot can do and more, but for a fraction of the price.

The S7 Max Ultra's ability to vacuum is impressive and it did a great job of picking up dirt, pet hair, and other particles on carpet and hard floors. The automatic emptying of the dustbin was flawless in our tests. This was comforting. The S7 Max Ultra mopping performance was also satisfactory, but not the best. It employed a microfiber mop that can absorb liquids, and sonic vibration technology to scrub floors with up to 3000 revolutions per minute. This was a bit more efficient than the X1 Omni circular pads which rotate at 180 rotations per minute. The S7 Max Ultra's ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle recognition system was very good. During our tests, it did not get stuck on anything, and it avoided curtains, power cords and other obstacles 100% of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Vaccuming and mopping your floors is a chore that we all hate, but are essential for maintaining a tidy home. It's also a messy, and often stinky task, which can be difficult to get done as it involves cleaning up the dustbins and water, and ensuring that hair or debris doesn't get stuck in the traps or brushes. Robots that mop and vacuum are now extremely popular. Many of these devices require you to empty the dustbin and wash and rinse mop pads by hand. This can be a hassle, especially if it's necessary to repeat this process several times during or after cleaning sessions. This is why we're pleased to see that a number of manufacturers are introducing self-emptying robots that will make the entire process simpler.

The Narwal Freo is the latest addition to this category of robotic cleaners. It has a plethora of brand new software, sensors and hardware enhancements that are designed to keep it at the top of its class. This includes the patented DirtSense technology and Smart-Swing feature, which both help to detect the surface being cleaned and automatically alters the cleaning mode based on the type of floor it's. The Freo also monitors dirt and automatically washes mops when they're full. This increases the efficiency of subsequent cleaning sessions since it does not return to areas that are soiled.

The Freo is also a step forward over its predecessor in that it is controlled directly by the LCD touchscreen at its base station. This is in addition to the app for smartphones. This is the first time for a robot vacuum and mop combo and is definitely a welcome alternative if you'd prefer to avoid the hassle of using the app. You can also alter the route during the session by using the LCD screen controls.

The Narwal Freo is also quiet when it is in suction mode, with a noise level of only 63dB. Despite this, maintenance for the Freo isn't completely hands-free as you will need to periodically clean various components like the primary brush roll as well as side brushes.

3. Ecovacs Deebot t9+

In our tests, we discovered the T9+ to be exceptionally adept at getting around obstacles. It tends to take a somewhat erratic route around the home. This often meant that it ended up in the exact location where it began cleaning minutes earlier. This didn't happen often, but it was enough to be noticed, and something worth taking note of.

The T9+ comes with a full range of accessories including the robotic cleaner as well as a docking station and an auto-empty station. The mopping module, and the dust bin replacement are available separately.

The iRobot Combo j7+ robot is a fantastic choice for cleaning floors. It's a vacuum cleaner and mop all in one. It has excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. It can help you map your clean and tidy areas without bumping into walls or furniture. The app lets you set up zones to indicate areas that must be cleaned as well as areas that you don't wish to be cleaned. You can also establish zones for no-mop or no-sweep zones.

iRobot's iAdapt 2.0 technology is a major element of what makes the Combo J7+ so clever. The Combo j7+ is also able to detect carpeting, which is a nice feature for homes that have a mix of hard floors and rugs. It won't attempt to get through the rug, though, and will instead back away if it feels it can't make it over the area without damaging it or the carpeting.

I was able to control the Combo J7+ through the mobile app, which is very intuitive and well-designed. It works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can start a cleaning by voice. The only issue I encountered was that the Combo j7+'s small water tank means you have to refill it frequently or limit its mopping to smaller areas, and run it in eco-mode more frequently.

The Combo J7+ has a tiny dust bin which you have to empty manually. The Combo mop pads are also less effective than other brands. This is a shame, because this robot is otherwise a great machine.
