I tried the ION XL in a kitchen and family room with hardwood flooring, area rugs, and a standard debris test. It's simpler to maintain and has lower recurring costs. It's also better at vacuuming bare flooring and picking up pet fur, but not as effective on carpets with a low or carpets with higher pile.
