The i3+ EVO's obstacle-avoiding capability isn't as robust as some of the other robots we tested and it repeatedly hit objects in our tests like handbags, shoes and pet toys before continuing its course. It also had trouble dealing with salt from kosher, coarse which it blew up and around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO comes with a host of features that make it worth the extra money over other Roomba models. It's a great value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL offers many advanced features, such as self-emptying bins and mapping that can store a lot of garbage. We tested it in a home with a mix between bare flooring and carpeting with low pile and found it to move and clean extremely well, even navigating corners. The vacuum does an excellent job of picking up pet hair on carpeting. However, it doesn't have as much power as our top choices.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, takes less time to recharge than the Shark and offers an array of scheduling and automation features, including support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark if you're looking for something cheaper, or if you prefer to use your mobile phone for control and monitoring rather than an actual remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and wet

It's difficult to find a machine that can combine mopping and vacuuming This one does exactly that. The dual tank system of this robot allows it to mop or vacuum with the push of a button. It effortlessly shifted between different surfaces during our tests and excelled at getting pet hair off of carpets and hardwood floors. It also includes an edge-sweeping tool that can remove hairs from walls and baseboards.

This robot is a good choice if you are looking for a robot that is affordable and has some extra features. It was able to maneuver around obstacles during our tests and can be controlled by an app or voice. It even supports scheduled cleanings and has a large trash bin to catch messes before they become full. The only drawback is that it could take up to 166 minutes to finish its job however, it's still faster than other robots we've examined.

It's not as effective on hardwood floors, however. Its side brush is often scattered with large, clinging pieces of cereal instead of vacuuming them up. It also had a difficult time removing table salt from a bare floor, with many grains falling across the floor and out of its reach.

It does support app control via the iRobot HOME app and voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, which is sold separately). It is able to learn about your cleaning habits and creates customized schedules. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure it gets into difficult-to-access corners. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to heavily soiled areas. It has a dustbin that automatically emptys and a battery life of about 60 minutes. The pricier iRobot j7 is more advanced and performs better on all surfaces. It also feels better built, has a larger dustbin that charges faster, and is able to navigate obstacles such as electrical cords with ease.
